Your credit card application is typically processed in 2 weeks (14 days), i.e., you can expect either approval or rejection of your application within 2 weeks.

If the status of your credit card application is On hold, it means that you either did not provide all the necessary documents or the card issuer found discrepancies in your application/documents.

American Express does not allow you to check your credit card application status online (i.e. directly on the issuer’s website). You have to either contact AmEx customer care helpline at 1800 419 3646 or +91 124 2801800 or send them an email at customerservicesindia@aexp.com to know the status of your application for a new American Express credit card.

If your credit card application is rejected, you can ask the bank officials the reason for rejection. If your application was rejected on grounds like incomplete/incorrect documents, you can submit the documents afresh. However, if the reason for rejection is that you do not satisfy the eligibility criteria, you can reapply for the card after six months after having ensured that you meet all the eligibility criteria for the card.
