American Express has now come up with better travel benefits on the Platinum Travel Credit Card. The monetary value of the Membership Rewards Points on redemption against Taj Stay vouchers has been increased and the number of complimentary domestic lounge visits has also been increased. These changes are applicable w.e.f. 1st September 2021.
Better Travel Benefits:
American Express Platinum Travel Credit Card has become even more rewarding in terms of travel benefits. The card issuer has made the following two changes in terms of the travel benefits that you get with the Platinum Travel Credit Card-
- Increased value of Membership Rewards Points on redemption against Taj Stay vouchers- The monetary value of Membership Rewards Points on redemption against Taj Stay vouchers has been increased to Rs. 0.50 per Membership Rewards Point. Now you can redeem your 10,000 reward points for Rs 5,000 Taj Voucher and 20,000 reward points for Rs 10,000 Taj stay vouchers
- 2 Complimentary domestic airport lounge access per quarter:- You’ll now get 2 complimentary domestic airport lounge visits per quarter instead of 1 complimentary lounge visit per quarter.
Change in Reward Rate:
The reward rate of the Platinum Travel Credit Card has also been changed. Now, you earn 2 Membership Rewards Points per Rs. 100 spent with the card instead of 1 Membership Reward Point per Rs. 50. It may look similar, but earlier if you were spending Rs 50, you were getting 1 reward point, now you won’t be getting any reward point on spending anything below Rs 100. This may be considered a slight devaluation of the card in terms of the reward rate.
Bottom Line:
The upgrade in travel benefits that you get with the Platinum Travel Credit Card is a welcome move by American Express. You get more complimentary lounge visits and a better reward redemption rate against Taj Stay vouchers. Now if you spend Rs 4 lacs on this card, you can redeem your points for Taj Vouchers worth Rs 24,000 and also get Rs 10,000 Taj voucher as a milestone benefit. So you are getting a reward rate of 8.5% on spending Rs 4 lacs.
However, at the same time, AmEx has also slightly devalued the reward rate of the card as now you earn 2 Membership Reward Points per Rs. 100 instead of 1 Membership Reward Point per Rs. 50. We might see similar changes in the future on other American Express Credit Cards as well.
