HSBC is one of the few foreign banks issuing credit cards in India, along with players like American Express. Known for offering privileged banking services and premium credit cards, such as the Taj and Premier Credit Cards, HSBC has now entered the market of credit cards designed for everyday Indians. The RuPay Cashback and RuPay Platinum Credit Card are the latest additions to HSBC’s credit card offerings.

UPI payments have become a part of our daily lives, helping us move away from using cash. While we often use credit or debit cards for big or medium purchases, most of us rely on UPI for small everyday payments, whether it’s at a local shop or with a street vendor. But why not earn rewards on these UPI payments too?
Now, with the two new HSBC RuPay Credit Cards, you can! Just link your card to UPI and start earning cashback or reward points every time you pay.
What’s the Eligibility Criteria for New HSBC RuPay Credit Cards?
The eligibility criteria for both the HSBC RuPay Platinum and Cashback Credit Card are the same.
- Individuals must be between 18 and 65 years old and have a minimum annual income of ₹400,000 for salaried positions.
- Should be an Indian resident.
- Reside in Chennai, Gurgaon, Delhi National Capital Region (NCR), Pune, Noida, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kochi, Coimbatore, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, or Kolkata.
About HSBC RuPay Cashback Credit Card
At first glance, the HSBC RuPay Cashback Credit Card may seem similar to the HSBC Live+ Credit Card, which was coincidentally known as the Cashback Credit Card. However, the new RuPay Cashback variant offers significant value and benefits, all at a minimal cost to the consumer. Cardholders can earn up to ₹4,800 cashback each year.
| Joining Fee | Annual Fee |
| ₹499 + GST | ₹499 + GST (Waived on Spends of ₹2 Lakh, Each Year) |
The HSBC RuPay Cashback Credit Card offers 10% cashback on dining, food delivery, and grocery purchases, as well as 1% cashback on all other eligible expenses. This is capped at ₹400 per month. It also offers a complimentary two-month EazyDiner membership on RuPay card activation and cashback worth ₹500 on making spends of ₹10,000 or more within the first 30 days of card activation. Those who often travel can take advantage of free domestic and international airport lounge access offered with this card; for the complete list of airport lounges, click here.
One unique benefit offered by this card is zero Forex markup charges for international spends. This offer is valid until 31st December 2025 and will allow users to use this card for spends in foreign currency without incurring additional charges. Check the complete offer details here. No cashback shall be provided for international spends.
About HSBC RuPay Platinum Credit Card
The HSBC RuPay Platinum Credit Card is a lifetime free offering, similar to its Visa counterpart. Both variants offer the same reward rate of 2 Reward Points/₹150 spent. The key difference lies in the RuPay compatibility, which enables UPI linking, a feature not available with the Visa version.
However, one notable disadvantage of the RuPay variant is the absence of milestone benefits. Unlike the Visa version, which offers accelerated reward points after annual spends of ₹4 lakh, the RuPay variant does not include this feature.

Bottom Line
While the HSBC RuPay Platinum Credit Card doesn’t bring anything new to the table beyond UPI compatibility, the HSBC RuPay Cashback Credit Card stands out as a strong value-for-money option. With high cashback on everyday categories like groceries, dining, and food delivery, along with added perks like airport lounge access and zero forex markup (limited period), it’s well-suited for users with moderate monthly spends. For many, this could easily become a go-to card for daily use.
There is also another limited-time advantage associated with both of these cards. Since they are available on RuPay JCB they are eligible for the 25% cashback offer for international spends.
Still, even after numerous new card launches and this latest partnership with RuPay, the availability of HSBC Credit Cards remains limited, leaving most of us empty-handed.

HSBC didn’t add RuPay variants to their existing cards—instead, they launched entirely new ones. RuPay Platinum is basically the same as Visa Platinum, and RuPay Cashback is just a lower version of the Live+ Cashback card, with similar eligibility and the same renewal fee waiver. Not really worth it.

It can seem worthwhile for some. Low cashback sure, but both domestic and international airport lounge access that too without any spend based requirements. Plus good for HSBC offers.

HSBC has written completely incorrect information.
First, there’s confusion about whether the 1% cashback is unlimited or capped at ₹400 (In the MITC file, it’s written as unlimited 1% cashback in many places).
And now I was checking — in the MITC file it says that the annual fee waiver for the RuPay Cashback Credit Card is on ₹1 lakh spent.

Exactly, I tweeted the same to them. The amount of misinformation is staggering. That is why I have refrained from going into the details in this article. There is no clear indication what kind of cashback one would get.
