31 December, 2025 / By Kartik Kanwar / 11 Comment

These days, there are several methods to pay your credit card bills. Platforms like CRED and MobiKwik offer cashback, while platforms like CheQ offer reward coins that can be later redeemed for vouchers. However, debit cards remain the best way to earn traditional rewards on credit card bill payments. Many people are now frustrated by the low cashback or rewards they receive on credit card bill payments. For those with high spends, debit cards are highly useful for these payments.

Latest Update on Credit Card Bill Payment With Debit Cards February 2025

SBI Unipay Removes Non-SBI Debit Cards for Credit Card Bill Payments

SBI Unipay was one of the most popular platforms for credit card bill payments up until recently. Now, it has removed the option for payment of credit card bills for all debit cards except those of SBI Bank. This has caused shockwaves amongst all those who regularly use the platforms for their credit card bills. Many debit cardholders of IndusInd, HDFC, and RBL Bank used to get points for their credit card bill payments through SBI Unipay, but this has now been discontinued.

Bottom Line

Credit card enthusiasts choose to have multiple cards in order to maximize their spending. This behavior doesn’t stop there. They are constantly searching for different ways to earn more rewards, even when making payments toward their credit card bills. The methods we mentioned above can help them achieve this, providing even more savings on their expenses.

Although the methods mentioned above are used by many, they aren’t foolproof ways to earn rewards on bill payments. These are more of trial-and-error approaches, often with several terms and conditions attached. Merchant category codes (MCCs) can change, and banks are constantly updating their systems to limit or exclude rewards on credit card bill payments. Still, for those with the patience and curiosity to experiment, trying out these methods might just help you earn something extra back.

Thought my IndusInd Visa was useless except for BMS offers. Just made a 60k worth of payment and got around 2k reward Points. Seems good enough especially considering I paid through CRED.
