Travel Club Lounge (Domestic) – Kolkata Airport Review

After attending my friend’s wedding in Kolkata, I was heading back to Delhi. My time in Kolkata was unforgettable. I took some time out from the wedding to go out and have the infamous street food of Kolkata, and I must say it was worth the hype.

The celebrations had been great, but by the time I reached the airport, I was completely exhausted. I didn’t feel like sitting in the crowded waiting area for hours before my flight. I booked my lounge access via TFS and headed to the Travel Club Lounge. It felt like the perfect place to relax for a while, sit comfortably, and have my food after the long and busy wedding celebrations.

The domestic lounge was not that far from the security. It was located in Terminal 1, above the food court, and would be accessible after security. So, it was easy to find my way to the lounge.

Check-in Process

As soon as I reached the lounge entrance, I could already see a crowd from a distance. When I walked closer, I realized there was a long line of people waiting to get in. Everyone was standing with their bags, looking a little tired and impatient.

I joined the queue and slowly moved forward. That’s when I noticed that there were only two attendants at the counter. They were trying their best to check people in, but with so many travelers waiting, the line was moving very slowly.

People in front of me kept checking their phones and looking toward the desk, hoping the line would move faster. Some were whispering to each other, and a few were just quietly waiting.

I stood there with my bag, watching the attendants scan boarding passes one by one. The lounge looked nice and calm inside, but getting in felt like the longest part of the journey.

After almost half an hour, which felt like a decade, I finally got into the lounge.

Sitting Arrangements and Interior

When I walked into the lounge, the first thing I noticed was how the seating area was arranged in a slightly raised section surrounded by silver metal railings. Inside that section, there were comfortable green cushioned bench seats with small round tables in front of them. A few people were sitting there quietly, eating snacks or looking at their phones while waiting for their flights.

Around the raised seating area, there were several red chairs placed beside small tables. Some travelers were sitting alone with their laptops open, while others were chatting softly. The space felt busy but calm at the same time.

On one side of the lounge, there was a buffet counter where people were standing in line to get food. Behind the seating area, I could see a bar with a bright sign. A few people were sitting there as well, enjoying drinks.

As the lounge was a bit crowded, I felt a little uneasy and compact. According to the airport and the large number of passengers, the lounge could have been a little bigger.

Food and Drinks

The lounge had a nice buffet with many food and drink options. Everything looked fresh and well arranged.

There were different breads and snacks, like small buns, fried cutlets, and fried rice, kept warm in serving trays. The fried rice was flavorful, and the fried cutlets were crispy and golden. There were also baskets of bread and a variety of toppings and condiments.

On another counter, there were fresh fruits like watermelon, some sandwiches, and light snacks. These were simple but looked fresh and tasty.

For drinks, there were refrigerators filled with different canned beverages and soft drinks. There was also a machine where guests could easily take drinks. The bar area had more drink options available as well.

The food was well prepared and delicious. There were enough choices for both light snacks and more filling food, and everything looked clean and nicely prepared.

Bottom Line

The Travel Club Lounge at Kolkata Airport was a comfortable place to spend some time before my flight. After the busy wedding celebrations and the exhaustion that came with them, it felt nice to sit down in a quiet space, relax for a while, and have some food. The seating was decent, and the buffet had a good variety of snacks and drinks, which made the wait for my flight easier.

However, the lounge did feel a bit crowded, especially considering the number of passengers using it. The check-in process also took quite a long time because of the queue at the entrance. The staff at the counter were doing their work, but they didn’t seem particularly friendly or welcoming.

Still, once inside, the lounge offered a calm place to sit, eat, and recharge before boarding. It may not be the most spacious lounge, but it definitely serves its purpose if you want to escape the busy terminal for a while.
