While several credit card changes and devaluations have recently been announced in India, most of them have not been very positive for users. However, BOBCARD has introduced a few changes that may actually benefit cardholders.
Starting 1 April 2026, BOBCARD will revise some reward-earning rules on its credit cards. Spends on telecom transactions (MCC 4814) will now earn core reward points, which was not the case earlier. Additionally, the BOBCARD Empower Credit Card will now offer 5X reward points on utility spends (MCC 4900). Cardholders will earn 5 reward points for every ₹100 spent on utilities, subject to a maximum of 1,000 reward points per statement cycle.
There is also a revision of certain charges.
| Applicable to | Changes 1st April 2026 |
| All BOBCARD Variants | 1% Fee (Subject To A Maximum Of ₹5,000 Per Transaction) Will Be Charged On Online Education Fee Payments Via Third-Party Payment Apps – Cheq, CRED, Ease My Deal, Mobikwik, NoBroker, Paytm, PhonePe, SuperPe |
| All BOBCARD Variants | Flat 1% Fee Will Be Charged On All Toll & Bus (MCC 4784) Transactions Where The Transaction Amount Is ₹5,000 Or More. |
| All BOBCARD Variants Except IRCTC | 1% Fee (Subject To A Maximum Of ₹5,000 Per Transaction) Will Be Charged On Railway Bookings (MCC 4112) Of ₹30,000 Or Higher |
Bottom Line
The latest changes by BOBCARD bring a mix of both positive and negative updates for cardholders. While earning reward points on telecom spends and higher rewards on utility payments for the BOBCARD Empower Credit Card are welcome additions, the introduction of new transaction charges on certain payments may increase the cost for some users. Overall, the impact will depend on how frequently cardholders make such transactions.
