Google Pay Flex Axis Bank Credit Card

UPI payments are huge in India right now. To stay ahead of the competition, several popular UPI platforms have started launching co-branded credit cards. PhonePe, for example, already offers co-branded cards with SBI and HDFC Bank. With this trend picking up fast, it’s safe to say that many more UPI-based credit cards are likely to be launched in the future.

Axis Bank and Google Pay have now joined hands to launch the new RuPay Flex Credit Card. This card offers rewards on payments made through Google Pay, including everyday UPI transactions. Since Google Pay is one of the most widely used UPI platforms in India, this co-branded card further strengthens its ecosystem. Cardholders earn Stars on UPI spends, which can later be used on Google Pay for payments, giving it a cashback-like feel.

The Google Pay Axis Flex Credit Card is a lifetime free card, meaning there are no joining or annual charges. It is best suited for users who frequently make UPI payments. Even though it is a free card, it still offers welcome benefits worth ₹500, which makes it an attractive option for regular Google Pay users.

    Cons

    • The reward structure of this card is quite confusing, even involving several promotional offers that are subject to change.
  • Welcome Benefits

    Reward Earnings

    • Earn 1 Star for every ₹500 spent on eligible categories.
    • In the first reward cycle, cardholders earn 2 Stars for every ₹500 spent on eligible transactions. The rewards are calculated at the account level, not per individual card.
    • In subsequent reward cycles, cardholders will continue to earn 2 Stars for every ₹500 spent, as long as the account is active with spends in the previous cycle.
    • Cardholders can also unlock 4X rewards and earn 4 Stars for every ₹500 spent if total spends exceed ₹15,000 in the same reward cycle. Higher spends unlock 8X rewards, allowing cardholders to earn 8 Stars for every ₹500 spent on spending above ₹30,000 in a reward cycle. The 4X and 8X Star benefits are promotional offers provided directly by Google Pay and may change from time to time.
    • Stars cannot be used to pay the entire billed amount. At least ₹1 must be paid in cash, and the bill amount cannot be fully zeroed out using Stars.
    • All Stars earned are valid for 1 year from the date of issuance.

Google Pay Flex Axis Bank Credit Card Features

    Bottom Line

The Google Pay Flex Axis Bank Credit Card offers a very low reward rate of just 0.2% on regular spends made via the Google Pay app. Cardholders earn 1 Star for every ₹500 spent, where 1 Star equals ₹1. While the card does reward all eligible spends, its returns are quite modest and fall short when compared to other options in the market, including the popular Axis Bank SuperMoney RuPay Credit Card.

Even when the accelerated Reward Rate is taken into account, the card disappoints.

Apart from rewards on UPI spends, this card offers no features or benefits to cardholders.
