KYC, short for Know Your Customer, is a process through which a bank collects information about the customer’s identity, address, business nature, and financial status, and then verifies this information. This process ensures the bank knows the customer and prevents misuse for Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing, or Proliferation Financing (ML/TF/PF). KYC is mandatory for new users. Additionally, banks must periodically update KYC documents in the records of their account holders, as per RBI guidelines.
Besides initial KYC at account opening, users must undergo Re-KYC and submit documents periodically to prevent restrictions.
