HDFC Bank has recently updated its most important terms and conditions regarding credit cards. The document outlines new charges that will be implemented for HDFC Bank credit cards starting July 1, 2025. These new charges will apply to transactions related to rent, wallet loads, and online skill-based gaming. Most credit card users are unlikely to be affected by these changes, as they have high monthly caps. However, high-net-worth individuals looking to maximize their credit card benefits may be the most impacted by these charges.
Rent Pay Transactions
Effective from 1st July 2025, a 1% fee on the transaction amount will be applied to rental transactions conducted with any applicable merchant during the month. The fee is capped at ₹4,999 per transaction.
HDFC credit cardholders will not earn any Reward Points for transactions related to online skill-based gaming.
Online Skill-Based Gaming
As of July 1, 2025, a 1% fee will be charged on online skill-based gaming expenditures exceeding ₹10,000 per calendar month. This fee will be applied to the total online skill-based gaming spending for the month. Additionally, the fee will be capped at ₹4,999 per transaction.
Utility
If you spend more than ₹50,000 on utilities each month, a 1% charge will be applied to your total utility expenses for that month. This charge is capped at a maximum of ₹4,999. Please note that insurance transactions are not classified as utility expenses; therefore, no charges will be applied to them.
Wallet Loading Charges
Effective from July 1, 2025, a 1% fee will be charged on wallet loading transactions that exceed ₹10,000 in a calendar month. This fee will apply to the total amount spent on wallet loading within that month and is capped at ₹4,999 per transaction.
Insurance
Insurance transactions will earn Reward Points, capped at 10,000 points per month. Merchant Category Codes (MCC) for Insurance include 1411, 1235, 5960, 6300, and 6381.
Bottom Line
All new charges will be applied to HDFC Bank credit cards starting from July 1, 2025. These charges are now standard for all major credit cards in India. It is important to be cautious when making rent and wallet load transactions, as most credit cards, with a few exceptions, typically involve some form of fees and charges.
In addition to traditional transaction fees associated with wallet loading and rent payments, skill-based gaming has emerged as a new category subject to charges, driven by various online gaming platforms.

Insurance transactions With effect from 1st July 2025, Reward Points accrued for insurance transactions will have a maximum cap of 10,000 per Month for Infinia, Infinia (Metal Edition), 5,000 per month for Diners Black Metal Edition, Diners Black, H.O.G Diners Club, BizBlack Metal Cards and 2000 per month for all other credit cards.
With effect from 1st July 2025, Online Skill Based gaming transactions will not earn Reward Points/CashPoints on all the cards.
